Wat ga je doen?
In deze cursus bouw je je eigen tapijtweefraam en gaat daar meteen mee aan de slag. Via papieren modellen verken je de basisstructuren van het weven en werk je stap voor stap aan een persoonlijk project. Je begint klein met bijvoorbeeld onderzetters of placemats en gaat dan groter werken bijvoorbeeld een kussenhoes, zitmat of klein vloerkleed. Onderweg verken je diverse weeftechnieken uit verschillende culturen en onderzoek je hoe techniek, ritme en materiaal samenwerken.
Elke les bouw je verder aan je project, met uitleg en demonstratie van docent Moe Kim. Ze begeleidt je persoonlijk in een overzichtelijke groep, met ruimte om ook van elkaar te leren. Moe Kim is textielontwerper en oprichter van Moe Kim Textile Studio. Ze studeerde Textile Design aan de Koninklijke Academie van Beeldende Kunsten in Den Haag, won in 2019 de Stroom Encouragement Award en exposeerde onder meer op Dutch Design Week en bij De Haagse Kunstkring

Voor wie is deze cursus?
Voor iedereen die nieuwsgierig is naar handweven. Voorkennis is niet nodig, zin om iets moois en unieks te maken is genoeg.

Creative Hand Weaving is an in-depth introduction to hand weaving as a craft and a design language. Over eight weeks, you build technical foundations while deepening your creativity, developing craftsmanship alongside a personal way of expressing yourself through textile. This course is taught in English.
What will you do?
You build your own tapestry loom and start working with it straight away. Using paper models, you explore the fundamental structures of weaving and develop your project step by step. You begin small, with coasters or placemats, and gradually work towards medium-sized functional pieces such as a cushion cover, sitting mat, or small rug. Along the way, you explore a range of weaving techniques rooted in diverse cultural traditions and investigate how technique, rhythm, and material work together.
What will you learn?
- Four hand-weaving techniques: Plain Weave, Amazigh (Berber) Pile Weaving, French Vichy Weaving, and Persian Chain Stitch
- How to combine texture, structure, and pattern in your work
- Material awareness and a mindful approach to yarn and textile
By the end of this course
- You will have built your own tapestry loom and worked with it throughout the course
- You will be able to apply and combine multiple hand-weaving techniques
- You will have made a personal woven object, from small to medium scale
- You will know how to work with textile in a conscious and sustainable way
Who is this course for?
For anyone curious about hand weaving and eager to discover what is possible with yarn, structure, and material. No prior experience needed, all you need is the desire to make something beautiful and entirely your own.
What does a class look like?
Each class, you continue building your project, guided by demonstrations and instruction from Moe Kim. She works with you personally in a small group, creating space for shared learning and mutual inspiration. Moe Kim is a textile designer and founder of Moe Kim Textile Studio. She studied Textile Design at the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague, won the Stroom Encouragement Award in 2019, and has exhibited her work at Dutch Design Week and De Haagse Kunstkring, among others.
